Law & ethics

Three rules that never change

  1. 01

I follow the law and the ethical standards of civilian competitive intelligence research.

  2. 02

I work under the relevant legislation in every territory: Israel and every country the research touches.

  3. 03

I use open sources, and commercial databases purchased lawfully.

Red lines

What I never do

A deliberate decision, not only a legal duty.

No stolen data

I never use stolen or illegally obtained files.

No intrusion

I never break into websites or systems.

No dark web

By deliberate choice, I don’t mine the dark web.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality and ownership

Client names stay confidential

I strictly protect my clients’ names and confidentiality.

Invoices: a reference number only

The subject of the research never appears on the invoice, only its reference number.

Once paid, the research is yours

On full payment the research becomes entirely yours. It is never reused or passed to a third party.

Until then, it belongs to Modi-In

Until the agreed payment is made in full, the research remains Modi-In’s property.

Process

From question to decision

  1. 01

    Define the question

What exactly do you need to know, and for which decision?

  2. 02

    Collect and analyze

I gather from every relevant open source, filter out the noise and cross-check the findings.

  3. 03

    The deliverable

A business intelligence report, an intelligence picture or a direct answer, with conclusions and recommendations.

  4. 04

    You decide

You act on a clear, verified picture.

Core concepts, in brief

Research question

Starting point

Where every project begins. A focused question saves time and money, and points the collection at what really matters to your decision.

How I work

Client confidentiality

Policy

The client’s name and the subject of the research stay confidential. The invoice shows only a reference number, and once paid in full, the research belongs to the client.

Confidentiality policy

Dark web

Boundaries

A part of the internet that a regular browser cannot reach, also used to trade stolen data. I decided that Modi-In does not mine it for information.

What I don’t do

Open-source intelligence

OSINT · Core concept

Collecting and analyzing information that has been published openly and legally: media, social networks, websites and official publications. The value is never in a single piece of information, but in cross-checking many of them.

What is OSINT

Facts vs. assessments

Analytic thinking

A ground rule of intelligence analysis: separate what is known from what is estimated, and go back to the original raw data when an old assessment starts behaving like a fact.

Nine tools from intelligence

Verification

Fact-checking

Checking whether a report, image or document can be trusted: what the original source is, when it was published, and who else is reporting it. That is how you tell real news from fake news.
